this was my first night shoot that didnt end with star trails. i was trying to achieve stationary stars in a beautiful sky. this was 2 exposures, both with the 35/1.4 one at f/2.2 for the stars and then a much longer low iso image at f/5.6 for the rocks and the afterglow of the sunset.

i was surprised to see soo many shooting stars appear on the image as i didnt see any with the naked eye. pretty cool

sweeeet
tho i am guessing some of those must be planes going by the orange colour of the trails (three of which are paralell, as ive never seen that many shooting stars in one scene, even during a metor shower?

loooove this! I love the gentle glow that extends from the water into the lower sky.

Hey Tyler,

Oh man this is sweet! Great work on this, I really like the stars in this, and nice work with the longer exposure for the ground/water area. Where was this?

I like the way all the shooting stars add to the shot. Often for me, when there is just one or two it looks odd, but with all of these in here it really adds to the shot. And even if some of them are from planes as Simon suggests, again it just works...

Very nice!

Exposure is measured in seconds not hours, I doubt planets move that quickly!

Hey Jim,

Thanks! this was taken on the beach in Cayucos. ive hade my eye on this spot for doing night shots for a while because it is easily accessible (no rocks to climb down or harrowing night hikes to deal with to get to the beach. just park the car and walk onto the beach!) i had scouted here the evening before and the tide was much lower and i was able to compose a much tighter composition on the two rocks, but the sky was cloudy. anyway... its a great location and i might have to try again soon.

If you took those last night they are Aquarid meteors. See how they all radiate from one area in the sky.

It must have been pretty dark for you to get so many stars in a relatively short exposure.
I think I see Orion just above the right-most rock in the foreground. Obviously, the wider the lens, the longer you have to capture an image before trailing begins. For years I did things the hard way, with 200 lbs of telescope mount just to hold a camera but the results were pretty good. Nowadays you can get a specialty tracker for DSLRs for about $300. Attach it to an ordinary tripod, polar align it and away you go! Anything that has stars is meat to me. I love it.

perfect.
I wanted to catch a composite image of the Perseid shower last summer but I did not see that much while I was out.
Good job!
