The lighting in these look great, I really like it, not too much, but not too little. Really good job with these.

My thought was the same as gome - fantastic lighting. For me the light in 1 and 3 are the best. I don't like it quite as much in 2 and 4 - it's not bad, just not as good. Nice job on the mirror effect on 5 - took me a little big to figure it out, although I think I can see it a bit in his foot on the ground - almost looks like he's sinking into the cement.

For suggestions, while the light in 1 and 3 is my favorite. I appears as though he was trying to give the kinda cool, tough look. But he just looks plain ol' angry. #4, I'd like just a little more room around him. The phone pose is 2 is kinda goofy and lastly the way both his shirt and jacket splay out in layers below the buttons looks kinda weird - like bird feathers or something.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. But all in all, I think you did a really nice job and I kinda nit picked these to death ;-)

(3) and (5) are very nice. (1) has an unacceptable squint.

lighting looks fantastic! His expressions are (I'm sorry for putting it this way) a little douchey in 1 and 2 especially.

Thanks for the critiques everyone!

I also don't like the eye squint as much in the first one, but I posted it because I like the way the lighting looks when compared to another photo in the same spot where the shadows are a little too harsh to my eyes (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kylehessphotography/8681802058/in/photostream/lightbox/)

I love these. Do you mind telling me what your shutter speed was for these? Did you use a slow shutter speed to get the background exposed? Just curious.

What did you use for lighting ? I like the way ambient light is balanced in sync with subject.

#3 for the win.

Great pose and lighting; excellent framing. This one should be printed real large and hung on an office wall.

Just now seeing the other comments....sorry guys.

Fredvf- I exposed the background for each location before adjusting the lighting, so yes, almost all of them have low shutter speeds/high ISO in order to balance the lighting.

mjoshi - I used speedlights for every photo. I used the SB700 for my key light in most of the shots & (2) SB600's were used for split/rim lighting.
