p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Do I need my customers permission to post photos of them on my website?

Hi all, what started out as just a hobby has quickly grown into something a little more serious. Having said that I developed a website a year ago and have asked all my customers permission to post their photos for other potential customers to see on my website. Do I really need to ask for their permission? Or should I be making them sign a document or is it as simple as stating somewhere on my website that I have all rights to the photos I take and can do whatever I want with them?

What is the correct take on this issue?

Thanks

Have them sign a release setting out what they're buying and what you retain in terms of rights. Do it with every client before you shoot.

The safe way would be a signed release. Without a release you can't do whatever you want.

You definitely need a release! The content you are using these photographs IS commercial. You are using them to advertise your web site/ business.
