p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Palouse Falls 1st trip

I grew up till I was 3, 15 miles from here and had never been.
My family on my Dad's side had a dry land wheat farm and homesteaded near here.
A couple of weeks ago I made a family trip to Pullman to visit family and made it a priority to stop and see the falls.
It was harsh light in the late afternoon till I set up for this series of shots when I high haze of clouds rolled in just enough to flatten the light.
Being under a time constraint as the rest of the family was in the car waiting for me, I shot a series of bracketed images, both panning vertically and horizontally to see what I could do once I had the time to PP.
The final image consist of 80 images, 4 deep, 5 wide, 4 tall.
C&C welcome.

I am not a fan of HDR, but it works on this one.

This is a beautifully composed image! I tend to agree with Dustin about the HDR, the only thing is that the grass/green is just a tad bit oversaturated creating a surreal look.

Bet you're glad you made the trip!

Nice job but back off on the saturation a tad.

would love to see it with a tad less HDR processing. Really cool looking location!

I really like it and glad you included that great Coullee leaving the falls. I have done it several times but always the falls as one shot and the coulee as another.

Thanks for the insight, I agree, that's why it nice to have another set of pro eyes look at it.
I did what I could in pulling the Green down as much as I could without screwing up the Hue, and replaced the original Image.
The saving grace is it will probably look fine as I will be printing it large on Canvas.

Nice image Kirk. That PP had to be taxing to stitch and blend everything together. I like that you've captured the whole canyon and the falls without the heavily distorted "leaning" of the falls when one shoots the whole scene with a wide angle. Very nice!

Hey Kirk,

This is a very cool composition. I think your pano work here is nice as I like the way it lays the falls and the flow of it out before the viewer. I do think the HDR is a bit too much. It's not that far off though, perhaps you can pull back on it more? But as you said, on canvas, it will probably look fine. An interesting little project though might be to try and process this normally and see what it looks like.

Kirk,

I like your composition here and how you combined both the falls and the canyon.
We were there last year in mid may and conditions were very similar to what you had.
We were there overnight, but it never occurred to me to try a large pano like yours.
