Male Dusky Grouse breeding display.

Kind of cool when I found it last night up in the Lasals.
Then I started seeing them all over... Must be the season for a week or two.
Just standing on his perch and hooting away.

He's got some dirty tail feathers it looks like also.

Thought I'd share as a search didn't show many.

Thanks guys! Funny all these years here and I've never seen one before. I thought it was a mini-turkey!

They used to be called a Blue Grouse, then someone somewhere thought they should have a new name...

What I am slowly learning is there is a season for every type wildlife out there. They surface for a while then fade away, then something else appears.

Right now I'm in the search for porcupines!

Very nice work Craig. I like the nice clean shot of the bird with the inclusion of all that habitat.

I just added a rearward view too. Now I know where the saying "Shake you're tail feathers" comes from.

Tim, I kind of preferred the environmental image also, rather than a straight up portrait. Although he was certainly posing for it.

Birdie, I've never seen one either. I think it might be that this is Utah and not Colorado where I once lived. Over there the Jeep roads are still covered in snow and not open to get up there and see this during mating season. Or, I was just never looking - but it would be hard to miss.
