This is how a wildlife biologist explained this behavior to me....they went through the motions but they didn't actually mate. Either way, it's a site to see one large bird on top of a larger one and no damage is done because of their talons.

Very nice Duane. Great exposure on the eagles, and a blue shy too. Is this "your" pair, and did they relocate near the Botanical Gardens?

Thanks a lot. She wasn't happy he was on her back at the time though....she tried to bite him in the face.

Yes, this is the Norfolk Botanical Garden pair and this was taken April 7th. The eagles aren't going anywhere...since October 2012 the USDA-WS have removed 1 complete nest, about 10-15 nesting attempts in various trees and have removed supporting branches from 4 trees they have tried to rebuild their nest in and all the trees are about 100' apart that they've tried to rebuild in.

Thanks Mike....other than seeing one catching a fish I think this is as exciting as eagle photography gets.
