It is a little bit different for me to do a black and white but this one just called for it. After finishing my fall SW tour season, I stayed in Northern Arizona / Southern Utah for a few extra weeks just living out of my truck or tent in a variety of remote locations. Friends met up with me twice and we enjoyed the beauty of the desert together. Here we found a remote tree on top of a sand dune and shot it during sunset. A few weeks later one of my friends came back to the location but said the dune had changed so much the composition was no longer possible. I felt thankful we could pull off a shot.

Black and white conversion simply by using Image/Adjustments/Black and White in PSCS6

Excellent image - simple composition, yet full of detail.

That tree really looks out of place there.

Alone in the wilderness. It's like it's own little world, the curvature of the dune emphasizes the solitude of the desert and the lone tree. Well seen, captured, and shared.

Isn't great when mother nature just screams "photograph me damn it, I am not going to hold this pose forever!" and you're there ready with the camera? I know I do and this seems to me to be one of those moments! Great photo!

Yeah, I agree. It really amazed me that something was there so perfect for photography (the tree was literally on the peak of the dune, but then as we desired to go back over and over to get that "perfect light", the dune had moved on with the flow of nature. Some things, as we see them, are very special and we really need to appreciate them and hopefully photograph them too.
