Another of this continuing series of the great beasts at California's San Simeon.
Resting as they molt their outer skin.
At 50mph from highway #1, it looks like a bunch of old tree trunk pieces washed ashore.
Then you pull over and park at the designated place, walk a hundred feet to the railing, and take a closer look.
OMG!

Great shot and great mood, Charlie. I've visited the Ano Nuevo seals a few times, and my nose is wrinkling just looking at this image!

Looks a little like the aftermath of a fraternity party. Very nice Charlie. This one gets my seal of approval...am I funny or what (don't even think of answering "what")

I'll always remember the first time I passed this spot Charlie. It's exactly like you say, I had no idea from the highway that there were so many of these guys. Great shot

Thanks Ken, Ron, Greg, Eric, Tim and Karl.
This is NOT one of the Seal Teams, Ron. Too fat. They could excel at swimming (they can dive a couple thousand feet deep- or so), but the best they can do at running is undulate on their bellies. Plus- there's the whole opposable thumb problem

Greg and Tim allude to the "fragrance" emanating from these guys. Like most- if not all- seals and sea lions, they stink like low tide at a fish-canning factory.
Eric- I had already formed that answer before you said I can't use it. Does that count?
