First three are from a week back when the Coot was picking among the pebbles by the lakeside.
Second three are from today when a Black Kite took evasive action and was flying upside down to counter an attack by another Kite.

The Kite turned upside down as another Kite was attacking it. I left in the other bird as it came into the frames to give the perspective.

That is very interesting good behaviour Martin. I've never seen anything close to that. Super shots of them. Kite images are really nice too.

Two neat sets in one Martin, and nicely captured too. I have never seen a coot eat pebbles ~ Ron

I've never seen a coot do that. It almost looks like it has poor eyesight. Nice job on these.

Really interesting...I suspect the pebbles are used to help grind seeds and the like. Nice timing on the upside down kite...reminds me of the movie Kite Runner...super movie if you haven't seen it btw.

Looks to me like the coot wasn't the only getting down to it, lovely low angles Martin! He sure is acting funny but I guess they do all sorts of things that we usually don't see. Nice job on the tricky exposures there. Super cool job on the upside down Kite

I have seen what I have thought to be raptors doing that but it is always far away so I figure my eyes were playing tricks on me. Congrats on the great captures of the aerobatics

Great stuff, Martin.
I've seen many birds swallowing pebbles from the dirt road at the nearest wildlife refuge- but never close enough to get an really good idea of what size they're after. These pics tell the rest of the story. Thanks for that.
The kite shots are also terrific story-telling pics. An event that I've never seen in person with any bird species. Thanks for that also.

The coot seems to be going trough some contortions just to pick up a pebble

A behavior hardly seen. Good job capturing it.
Great action shots the last three. I like the first of the series best: a beautiful display of the underwings

I think I'd clone out the attacking kite and leave your acrobat alone in the frame.
