I'm heading from Hot Springs, AR to Gulf Shores, AL soon to speak at a retreat. I'd love to break up the trip along the way and take some photos. Anyone familiar with any stop-worthy photo ops? I'll be going South through El Dorado, AR to Monroe, LA. Then over to Jackson, MS, Hattiesburg, Mobile, and then finally Gulf Shores. Thanks in advance!

Oh, and here is the Google Maps route if it helps:

I've found very little along that route that offers photo ops. If you have an interest in the Civil War, the Vicksburg battlefield is a great stop, and the antebellum homes are interesting. Mobile has the battleship, but most of Alabama's landscape scenery is up north. Gulf Shores will offer the typical beach scenes.

Yeah, north Alabama. Bankhead has some waterfalls. Other areas up there also. There may be some coastal things on the Gulf Islands National Seashore, but you will need time to look and find. Maybe some shrimp boat views, old docks, etc.

Poverty Point may be worth a side trip. There are also some bottomland hardwood forests near Delhi, LA and the Tensas NWR. Vicksburgh with the bridges across the Mississippi. Also, downtown Vicksburgh may provide some older storefronts that could provide some interesting B&W conversions. The military park might be worth a drive through as some I'd the monuments are interesting architecture - especially the Illinois memorial (modeled after the Pantheon). The Natchez trace may provide an interesting sunken road shot, depending on trees, blooms, and light. You may get lucky with early morning fog/mist and the USS Alabama there in Mobile.

Other than that, I'd say most will pale compared to Hot Springs and the surrounding Ouachitas.

Thanks all! Wow, Seth... lots of great ideas. I'm liking the idea of the bottomland hardwood forests and Vicksburg buildings on the way there. Maybe I could stop at Vicksburg again on the way back for some of the Civil War stuff.

Thanks for taking so much time to give ideas. You put a lot of thought into it!
