From Greece and Turkey all the way east to the Orient, there are many societies where men carry so-called "worry beads" with them. They are used as a way to occupy the hands (remove stress?)
But no women allowed to use them .

Hmmm..., quite an expression. Not sure what he thinks about you.

this is very hospitality nationality, guest - is number one in the house...however, when they do know who you're - you considered as a stranger... I don't think many people liked their photos taken back then. (Now many little better in major cities and same in rural Uzbekistan).

But I bet OP can share a story or two on Uzbek's hospitality - food and stay. Many times my friend (truck driver) and I went to Andizhan, Dzhizakh, Namangan where we would arrive literally in the middle of the night. And each time the host will start cooking a fresh meal for you (Pilaf).

Thanks Bob and CMB.
Nor was I sure what he was thinking about it .
But when I indicated that I wanted to take his pic, he nodded his assent willingly.
That he didn't smile was fine by me. We were total strangers to each other- there was no reason for him to smile.
I've found that men are generally more aloof to strangers than women- especially in certain cultures. Perhaps it's a macho thing.
