Canon is announcing some new cameras on the 19th of August. This is one of them, the new G6. The 20D is confirmed by several sources and the specs as outlines in the first post are correct. The price is either $1599 or $1699 with the new 17-85mm lens. No word on a 3D or equivalent camera, but it could be announced at Photokina.
9MP at 1.5X requires the same size pixel as 8MP 1.6X. Canon can do this sensor like a cookie cutter, easy.
1.5X also makes some sense. Canon will have a 1MP advantage over Nikon's D70. It also won't eat into 1D-MK2's customer base. 8MP/1.3X is still better than 9MP/1.5X.

Why?

Economically speaking, 4 sensors would be ridiculously expensive to produce. I don't think they'd even consider it unless the new 300D is going to be a 1.5x and they're going to stop producing the 1.6x.
