Ok, so here's the speculation that should be announced soon I hear...As for my source...well, it's someone that doesn't want to give out their source. Anyways...only time will tell...
"Canon EOS 20D will be available in September.
8.0 MP
1.6x
Digic 2 circuit
9 point AF
5 FPS
0.2s starting time
1/8000s
Compatible with EF-S lens interface which digital rebel is using now.
Almost same exterior design as 10D but adding a joy sitck at the center of the control wheel
and two new lenses:
EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM DC
EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM DC"
What's the point of EF-S mount? Why don't they just make them EF like Sigma did to their DC lenses? There are just some extra plastic at the end of EF-S. What's the point?
And if you think about the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM DC, it does sorta make sense, because you've got IS to deal with the fact that it's a slower lens at f/4-5.6.
Then again, wouldn't it be cheaper to make it f/3.5-4.5 and leave out the IS
Hmm! Any info on the size of the buffer? Will it remain 9 shots? Hopefully it will be larger.
The 17-85 EF-S IS lens would be a great carry around lens for casual shooting and the IS will be useful to low-light indoor shots. IS aside, I hope image quality is better than the 18-55!

I beleive it's the fact that it wouldn't work well with full frame cameras. Kinda like Nikon's "DX" line of lenses, it's specially designed for Digital. The Rebel came out AFTER the 10D, hence the incompatibility with the 10D (unless modded).
Can any assumption be made that if it is 8mp with the Digic II circuit, the sensor will behave like the 1DmkII sensor in terms of low-noise and resolution?
Well, the pixels are much smaller than on the 1D MKII, so the inherent noise should be more if all else is equal. Of course that can be compensated for by more denoising. The overall image resolution would be less though.
Is anyone else waiting for some new good lenses from Canon? The last couple of years have seen mostly the cheap stuff. There are no new high end teles in sight. Maybe at Photokina?
I guess people want zooms these days, and while I like mine just fine, it would be nice to see a wide prime (wide on a 1.6, like 15mm or thereabouts) in there. And one that doesn't cost the same price as a used car. Rant off.
The 10-22 would be sweet, if it's reasonably priced. It would be tough enough to fork over cash for a lens that wouldn't work with full frame down the road; more so if it was expensive.

I would LOVE to see a rectilinear 16mm-17mm L (preferably f2.8, but a f4 would be O.K). Just don't hold your breath on any new primes in general and more specifically wide angle primes for quite some time.
Canon is making loads of money on their zooms and they have seemingly abandoned any thought of new primes. If I remember correctly you can count on two fingers the number of new primes released since January 1, 2000; the 100 Macro and the 400 DO I think.
Why would it be called the 20D? That sounds like the number of a lower or down graded model. The progression is usually lower numbers for deluxe/pro models and higher numbers for low end or budget models: EOS 3000, 300, 30, 3, 1, etc. This class of DSLR has been a little wacky: D30, D60 & 10D. EOS 5D makes more sense if it's a major upgrade. If a mere tweak, EOS 10DN or 10D MKII seems more likely.

So, how many primes is that?
I see great primes from standard to tele, but next to nothing at the wide end. And with the crop factor sensors, the ultra-wide prime makes all the more sense. To me anyway...
These are pretty much the kind of specs i was especting (pun intended) and wanted. If this is indeed the case i may have to buy this camera a few months from now. But the truth is, it's all a matter of time. I cant afford a new camera right now anyways.

People, I can confirm that this rumour is 99.8% true. I went to the camera store today and spoke to the owner. I asked if he knew anything about the 20D. He said yes, he heard about it on Friday. I asked him to tell me about it. He said, "if I tell you, will you buy it?". I replied, if it's as good as what i've heard, then yes i'll buy it. Then I told him what I heard. His reply: "yes, you are correct. We were briefed about it on Friday by Canon."
I will divulge my source, but only to people who PM me.
