When was researching for my 1st Death Valley trip (taken in March this year) I saw so many images taken at Zabriskie point that I planned not to visit ZP and use my time on other spots within the valley - let alone photograph this cliche spot. As nature has it, when I was there the weather was not very photographic friendly and I had time on my hand so went about ZP. My first impression - 'wow' the view was breathtaking. After experiencing it live I felt very few photographs that I have seen so far, did justice to this place. I ended up not only photographing here but spent one Sunrise and one Sunset. I thought there are hundreds of images taken here but mine is not there yet. So here is my take on it. Can't say how it compares with what is out there but this is how I felt about the place.
I think this is one of the better images I've seen from there. I never hesitate to shoot icons (there is a reason they are icons) as each shot is unique in some way. Yours is outstanding.

+1.. Be cautious in the search for uniqueness, as we sometimes overlook the obvious..

Don't think I've ever seen a ZP shot with such a well-defined badlands area showing between the foreground hills and the distant mountains
Your title sure got me, I thought you had posted something from a new galaxy ... Good job on this, as Stan said, there are reasons that icons are icons... People aren't shorting them because they are ugly... sometimes people put such am emphasis on being unique, that they purposely miss the beauty that's staring them straight in the face.

@stanparker, oldrattler, JimFox: You are absolutely right. These places are iconic for a reason but the quest for uniqueness sometimes overpowers. ZP is a remarkable place to experience.
@uintaangler: This image was taken from the main viewpoint. I think I was standing very near to the sign boards facing little more towards the right than straight ahead. HTH
