Still in the middle of processing the rest, but would really appreciate some C&C on this particular shot to aid me through the rest:

Upper Antelope

Nikon D800 + Zeiss Distagon T* 2,8/21mm ZF.2

I feel like I got a little heavy handed with saturation - thoughts?

*Edit*: I dialed the saturation back some because I personally felt like it was just a smidge too much. It's to my liking now.

Thanks for all those that commented - I appreciate it!

I like it, and have one of these myself, I do agree that it could use a bit less saturation though. Nice shot.

Hi John,

Very nice shot here. I like it, and for myself, I think the saturation is fine, I have seen many shots from there that had similar vibrance to the reds. But it's up to you, so if you are thinking it's too saturated, then for you maybe it is. I think there is room for play with personal tastes on shots like these. But me... I like it as it is...

Thanks Jim.

Is there anything you would change about it if it was your shot?

I am with Jim as I like it. If this was my photo I would fix the purple at the top. This is an easy fix. Make a new layer in PS and set it's blending mode to "color" then sample the red you want and simple paint over the purple. Tweak the layer opacity to taste.

This is a nice image. The images from the Canyons are really open to interpretation by the artist and the viewer. The variations in colors, tonality, saturation and even slight variations in the angle of viewing can make images significantly different. My suggestion is to create several variations and see which ones you like. I think these images are about artistic interpretation and not really a documentary type image trying to show exactly what was there.

Have fun.

I think the contrast might be too much. When you increase saturation you can dial down the contrast or better yet bring up the shadows a bit.

I like the version that I can see here...and I like that there is some good contrast, shadows are just that, and they don't always have good definition to them, I think it really works, and I like it a lot.

It looks beautiful just as is to me, but I agree with Scott about the purple. The purple bright spot keeps drawing my eye up and away from the rest of the image.

I like it!! Maybe a little to much saturation, but I like them like that.

Great Photo. I like the amount of saturation you have, the exposure looks good too. I know everyone wants you to "fix" the top, but if it were me, I would just crop the top inch off (right under that nub). I don't think you need it for the composition.
