The following are pictures from Chestermen Beach on Vancouver Island. It is near Tofino and right below my window at the Wikinnish Inn.

I shot a similar scene with my 25f2, 35f1.4, and 15mm/2.8 zeiss with an umbrella over my camera to avoid the rain drops. I was trying to live with 3 lens. Well 4 - I brought my 17-55 for my 7d and kayaking.

It was a tough weekend for landscape photography. Blowing and raining so much it almost ruined the umbrella.

#1 for me, but I'd clean up the tree bits at the right edge.

Timmeh: I actually physically cleaned up some debris in one of the pictures - I will go back and see what I should do in photoshop. Thanks fro the suggestion. Much appreciated. Scott

Hey Scott,

Those are tough conditions to shoot in, you came away with some nice shots still. I agree that #1 is my favorite, the lead in with the water in the foreground really makes it work. I do agree with Tim as to cloning out those couple of odd tree branches just poking into the scene along the upper right edge.

Vancouver Island is such an awesome part of the world... I really like these. I prefer the 2nd by quite a wide margin actually, for its powerful use of negative space. However, I do think it needs some blending work on the trees at the right. The sky between the cracks is too bright.

paul weston: It is the best fast UWA bar none for low light. Perhaps the nikon 14-24 with an adapter is close, but the zeiss has less correctable ca and less correctible distortion and no focus creep. The only other lens is the TS/17 but it is not for night photography at f4. If I was just doing landscape, I would stick with my ts/17. But on this trip I was planning on night photography.

Gary Clennan: As I said to Paul, there are only 3 choices in uwa, and for low light this is the best one. Hopefully the picture tells the story. Thanks for the encouragement. Scott

Matt Tilghman: Good suggestion - there is some differences in exposure between the branches and it could be darker. Thanks for pointing it out. Much appreciated. Scott

Scott, I am finding the sky being so dominent in all 3 photos, yet I think brings very little to the photo. It is very drab and grey. I know you want that set of trees on the right, but a tighter crop that would take out most of the sky would improve the image from my perspective.

chez: I was hoping for some color or pattern but it was just not coming. I agee that the sky is pretty constant. I should have tried a lower shot with more beach. I will go back and look through my raws. I appreciate the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
