Thanks, Bob; glad you like it. I was surprised too.
In the USSR- not long before I was there- having anything to do with an American could get a Russian in serious trouble with the government. And since I hadn't seen any expressions on Russian men that suggested friendliness, I approached the man cautiously, indicating (slowly) that I wanted to take a pic of the baby. He didn't smile, but he stood still, looking at me as I raised the camera.
Ever the optimist, I took the shot of both of them first- that's why I missed vertical by so much; I was too hurried.
Then, since there was no yelling or other signs of displeasure, I zoomed in on the baby.
A quick shot there and a smile/nod from me and off I went.
This might have been my only pic of a Russian man- up close.
The others shots of men were in southern states of the USSR (i.e. Kazakstan)- and not Russia at all. Those folks were much more laid back.
