Hello Forum! I'll be visiting the big island next month, and am looking to get some shots while there. Was hoping I could get some suggestions for areas to visit that would make for some interesting shots.

Currently planning on seeing the area where the lava flows into the ocean, and I've also heard about Akaka falls, Laupahoehoe Point, and Mauna Kea summit.

I like the botanical gardens on the SE side but they do close early ie before the light gets good.

Ted we were there recently (from Australia)....highly recommend the lava boat tour that starts before dawn. All of Volcanoes National Park, Black Sand Beach with the turtles.
Akaka Falls was impressive to view but hard to get a really interesting viewpoint for images....but the Big Island was a great place to visit!

Thanks for the suggestions Andrew. I've seen pics of akaka falls, and they are all the same. Seems pretty limited as far as where you can see it from.

Waipio Valley and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, particularly the National Park - lots of unique photos there

yeah I plan on going to both of those for sure. I've tried to do some research on waipio valley. Do you know much about it?
