Hi Guari. Unfortunately you were unblessed with typical UK light - grey and flat ! Hence the sea/sky probably add nothing, or even detract, from the overall feel of your work. The rocks in turn don't look very sharp in these shots (on my monitor - maybe this happened in uploading or was caused by the forum software reducing size).

If it were me I'd have gone for purely aesthetically pleasing shots of the colours and textures of the rocks .. probably using a polariser .. because I think you were on the right track.

I think it may have been possible to pull some tone (if not detail) into the sky and sea with the use of some ND Grad filtration, the top of the frame is currently too bright and pulls your eye away from that lovely rock detail. The lighting/weather hasn't helped but I'm sure a Grad or two would have helped balance the exposure.

Thanks Frogfish and Pink.

It's always quite a learning experience hearing why a set of pics didn't hit the right chords with an audience. I appreciate the feedback and will take it up to consideration

Thanks again

I agree with above comments, but also believe there are many more inspiring areas around South Shields, Marsden and Whitburn.

As stated above, it's interesting and helpful to get feedback on this. I shoot for myself but I also find it rewarding when someone else can make an aesthetical and emotional connection to my photography.

I originally shot this to present the washed out landscapes this region is known for, due to the ever-present British weather. I was hoping for a more moody interpretation but I didn't have the time to stay a few days in the area waiting for foggier, denser conditions. I think that the washed out, greyness does show and is part of the subject. I never considered while being there, to make the rock formations the isolated subject. It could have worked. I guess I am not always looking for the perfect conditions that are very prevalent in today's landscaping. Maybe I should...

I guess that the message got through, but it was not well received by others. And that is fine by me. You never stop learning.

Thanks again..
