From Sunday...the Duino Cliffs Nature Reserve on the northeast coast of the Adriatic (Italy). That's Duino Castle in the distance. It's one of the few castles in the region that are still privately owned and inhabited.

Yes, Rilke wrote those while staying as a guest in that castle. The cafe-bar in the nature reserve is named after him.

No comments on the photo? Good or bad, they're all helpful and very welcome.

I like this one...i'm slightly confused by the division of light where the water is lighter in color next to the cliffs and then a straight line then it gets dark. It almost forms a inverted V starting from the cliff where the castle is.

Whats causing this light to be like that?

That's a beautiful photo, with balanced composition and peaceful muted colors. Especially like the sky and the way foreground is lit.

Sasha.

Sunny Sra and Sasha, thanks to you both for the comments. It's so nice to get some specific feedback, and on precisely the part that concerned me. There really was a line there where the sun was reflecting on the water, but I accentuated it quite a bit. This one turned out to be a complicated blend of numerous exposures for both depth of field and tones, and I ended up running a seam along the reflection. I've now shared this photo on three forums plus Facebook, getting the usual dozens of likes and two-word comments, and wondering all the while if anyone would be bothered by the light on the water (people tend to be so stingy with constructive thoughts). I must say that one thoughtful comment weighs a lot more than all the rest, so thank you for that!
