Brilliant stuff, as ever, Charlie. May I suggest respectfully that my personal choice would be to crop out the left side of the picture, which does not do anything for me?

Thanks Sag, Oz, Bob, Chris and Philber.
As a documentary shooter who never poses people, it warms my heart when others (especially photographers) understand what I'm trying to do- which in this case is to visually tell a small story of an "event" that interested me while traveling in Russia.
About the left side, Philber- I agree with you that it probably does nothing to help. My problem is exactly WHERE to crop? I don't want to lose that one man's head on the left, and I don't want a crop to be too close to the left edge of the table.
I'm thinking I'll leave it as is, and offer a feeble plea of "reality."
