Had the pleasure of meeting Morris on his current visit to New Orleans. Spent the day with him and his lovely family yesterday doing some shooting. We spent some time at the New Orleans Botanical Gardens. Learned quite a bit from Morris, he is a wealth of knowledge.

I'm sure once Morris gets back and posts his shots mine will pale in comparison.

Thank you Morris, enjoyed the day .

Regardless of what Morris posts from his visit to your nifty part of the world, these are excellent.
And #1 is off-the-charts swell (according to The Peanut Gallery).

Birdie, that first one is really special. Lighting, background, composition (with the smaller bud) all come together. Morris will be jealous.

1 wins over 2 for me Birdie and one reason is the lighting is way better. A very important aspect to florals is to keep them simple and you have done quite well in the first two. I'm not a big fan of the sign in the last, it steals from the subject. For what it is worth I would have stepped back to lessen the impact of the flowers and let accent the sign rather than the sign and flowers fighting for my eye

Just my 2 cents.

Oh my.........she's gone Floral

#1 first class Birdie, you have kept the texture and shown to create a feel for the fragile flower petals here. Excellent isolation, nice comp with the bud actually working in an excellent way to add to the image overall. This is an interesting comparison to #2.....................I really like #2 as it too captures a nice feel from the dappled light and it benefits in form from the shadows in this shot where as #1 almost looses a bit of dimension not having any shadows if that makes sense to you? #1 is strong and crisp, #2 is more soothing and relaxed..........I can't decide so I really enjoyed them both for the different reasons mentioned

I like what you were going for but maybe would have gotten in all the lettering in a slightly OOF BG with these nice foreground beauties!

It appears Morris had a good influence on you, I am sure you did the same for him!

First shot is super birdie -great clarity and detail with a wonderful comp. I like the dramatic lighting in 2. F4 might have worked a little better on 3, but I'n not really sure ~ Ron

Oh, the nice clean background and super detail look great togeather Roberta. I wish I could say the same for the last. I don't think you have to worry about my photos showing yours up as you did a fine job. Gerald has been monopolizing the laptop with his homework so I barly got to sort the raw files.

Ps. Now that I've seen the second on a bigger screen I'm fond of the simularity of subject and background color.
