Thanks for the comments and encouragement. As mentioned, I haven’t spent much time doing studio work but I have some basic gear and want to find more time to experiment.

This set-up made use of 2 Alien Bee B800’s. The main light used a large softbox and was positioned about 45 degrees from my subject. The 2nd light was for hair lighting and used a medium softbox positioned above, behind and at 45 degrees. It was set to 1 stop less than the main. I would have liked to add a bit of fill light but my subject was starting to lose patience.

nice lighting ratio and very cute picture of your kid.

you probably wouldn't have had to add another light for fill but instead just grabbed a v-slat or white card to bounce some light back into her other side.
