p.11 #1 · Just announced: Canon Rebel SL1, T5i & Powershot SX-280

I am thinking about buying the SL1 as a backup camera. Too bad it doesn't have AFMA.

Canon doesn't want people with cheaper cameras to be able to fix back / front focus issues.

My 50L needs +9 on my 5D2, so it will be pretty much useless on the SL1 or any other camera below the 5D2.

You can't know that. If it needs +9 on your 5D2. It doesn't mean it also need that on a SL 1 or any other camera. Not even another 5D2.

The SL1 is a scaled down Rebel and no Rebel has MA.

Point taken, but I have tried my 50L on my friends cameras, and +/- 0 was never an option.

All cameras should have AFMA. Even my lens only needs +2 on the SL1, I should be able to set it.

I am no marketing expert, but I think Canon would sell more cameras (backup cameras) if they allowed AFMA on all models.

I am no marketing expert either but I suspect that marketing considerations are exactly the ones which prevented MA to be included in Rebels.
