Canon just released three new cameras today: The Rebel SL1, the Rebel T5i and the compact Powershot SX-280.
From the specifications alone, the new Rebel T5i is very similar to its predecessor, the Rebel T4i. They both share the same 18MP sensor and similar camera features, but autofocus was improved with a high-precision dual-cross f/2.8 center point.
The new Rebel SL1 has a new sensor and features similar specs when compared to the T5i's, but in a more compact and a lighter body weighting around 175g less. It captures 1 less frames per second in AF continuous mode but both cameras share the new high-precision f/2.8 center point.
From these newly released cameras, the Powershot SX-280, is the first and only one to sport the new DIGIC 6 image processor. It will have a 20x zoom range, Wi-Fi buit-in and Full HD.
Ok it's official, T5i side-date is lamest in Canon's history, makes the 20D->30D upgrade look positively awesome. Should have just gone with the 100D announcement, at least it's size makes it worthwhile. I wonder if they'll keep the lame 1100D going, can't really see the point.
If I'm reading BH comparison on their newsletter the SL-1 shoots in jpeg only :-(. I thought this was the camera that would have been a competitor for the Panasonic GH2 or GH3.
question though, is it a new 18mp sensor or the same old sensor dating back to the T2i?
I read on one website stating it may be a newly redesigned sensor.
If reading Fred's post it say the difference between those two bodies is the Newly developed 18 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor in the Canon EOS Rebel SL1
New stuff...
- Digic6 CPU; could prove interesting as it floats up to the upper levels
- BSI-CMOS II APS-C Sensor; better DR and low-light/higher/cleaner ISOs
- updated 18-55 STM IS zoom; for the movie folks
- a very small DSLR for those hobbits that are mucking about
The point n shoot looks kinda interesting...
Arms crossed, waiting for the big boyz toys to be announced

Right on, there's no Direct Print button this time.

I think the 100D should have been the 1200D, else what's the point of having three! rebel models at once?
IMO the release of the 100D means Canon's heart is not really in mirrorless. I think they should have released an EOS-M2 with much better AF, integrated EVF, and 3-4 new lenses. They probably can't get CDAF working very well and there's no point with an EOS-M2.

Doesn't matter. Canon's mirrorless would always be gimped and held back, since they are so afraid of stepping on their own toes.
Next year we'll all be shooting with the full frame NEX anyway. Fuji and even Samsung are also looking into full frame mirrorless.
