I posted a question in the Canon board about supplementing my 600 f4 IS with a 400 2.8 IS as a secondary/flight lens. I had a chance to shoot the lens a few times over the past several days. Thus far, my experience is that on my 1Ds2, the lens is absolutely tack sharp wide open, and the same can be said with a 1.4X TCII wide open. On my 7D, it's not quite as sharp at the pixel level as it is on the 1Ds2, but it still seems slightly better than my 600. These experiences seem to mirror my experiences with the 600.
C&C welcome
Here are a few shots:
Dark-eyed Junco 7D, f/2.8, ISO 400, 1/500, tripod mounted. I probably would have been shooting at ISO 1600, f/5.6 on my 600.
