Very nice Steve!!! We had a Burrowing Owl near the library years back, what is it about libraries?
Tim
We have had the same phenomenon here: for a number of years, great horned owls have nested and fledged young next to one of our local libraries. The connection of owls and libraries goes back to the time of ancient Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans who held the owl as the symbol of wisdom and the goddess of wisdom Athene (Athena). A library can be called an athenaeum. The genus of the Little Owl (old world) and the Burrowing Owl (new world) is Athene, so your Athenes were right at home.
