I like the shot and that small water fall in the background.
I know what you mean about " old friend " Its interesting how the places we have been and our photos become " old friends " and great memories !

That is too bad. It's time was getting near, it looked. We had a few wedding photos there on 12-13-12 the day after our wedding. Glad we made it.

Hey Jody,

I hadn't heard that it had fallen. How sad to hear, I certainly have my share of shots using that tree. Even in death, it was contributing so much to us around it.

As for your shot, I think it's over the edge with the HDR, the clouds don't look real at all, and the glow of the shot doesn't work. I do like the composition, I think it is super cool, but the processing? Doesn't work for me.

I reduced the saturation and softened the clouds a little, does this look better?

Jody - Like most, I've got my share of negatives, slides and CF card shots of that tree over the years in all kinds of conditions.

Because it was dead, I enjoy your initial rendering in HDR for its moodiness. Gives something of a "Something Wicked This Way Comes" feel to the scene -appropriate for the situation.
