This is the last shot I am going to post from this sequence, and it was very late in the show, hence it has those deeper reds. Slightly different perspective as well. Let me know you thoughts and if it works for you.

No real saturation boost in the sky on this one, just a very vibrant sky. Kind of curious as to why this shot did not get much feedback. Too much of the same area? Don't like the comp? Something I am missing? Let me know.

i think it's a touch too busy, and my eye keeps coming back to the totally blown bit of sky on left near the horizon

You asked... I wrote and deleted (did not post it) a comment. I would like to offer criticism if it's helpful and desired, but I didn't want to be uncomplimentary, and I feel minimally qualified to comment... That's why I didn't respond to this...

A reconstructed version of my comment: I like the rocks and the nice exposure and detail on them. The painterly foamy sea mid-ground is gorgeous. You caught great wave action. The color on the water to the right is nice.

The wave action and rocks lead my eye into the picture, but then the sky pulls it out. The overly bright section (it doesn't look blown to me) above the left horizon doesn't help, but the heavy red stripe top left is the death blow, my eye just goes right there. Overall, the sky seems over processed, over saturated, and unnatural colors, and there is too much of it. The red on the water at left is pretty, but some might think it a bit over the top... I guess I would say that while not clearly unrealistic, it strains credibility, for me.

That's my honest, unfiltered reaction to the image, viewed on a decent calibrated system (I usually won't comment from my laptop).

I thought the other image, "Washed" also seemed over processed, but you got a alot of really nice comments on that one. As I say, I often feel out of my league here on this site, but I am here to learn...

I hope the detailed reaction is helpful to you, or at least starts some discussion... and if I am way off base with that above, I would like to know it...

Hi all. I just wanted to clear up one thing here. The sky has had no saturation add and has had minimal processing (mostly for water spots caused by the surf and a tiny bit of mid-contrast). I am including an unprocessed crop of the sky out of Canon's DPP just to prove the point). Compositionally, I know that it is kind of 50/50 in its ratio, but that is what I had to deal with in that direction. I lightened up the shot a bit also as I felt the original was a tad too dark.Just to be clear.

Jon, I have no idea why some really nice images seem to go to the bottom of the forum page and vanish into oblivion with only a comment or two. In fact I have posted images I was proud of that did not receive even a single comment. I have posted others that I thought were good but I just seemed to have some issue with the processing or composition. I asked for C&C but those also often vanished into oblivion.

If I wanted comments on my images, I felt it was only fair I commented on the images from others. I made lots of comments mostly very positive. That seemed to have no effect on my unappreciated contributions to the forum. I also tried offering C&C and suggestions for improvements. That seriously backfired. Most people who post really want Uhs and Ahs and not any critique. I started getting PM's telling me my opinions were wrong and I was a trouble maker.

Bottomline: If you post on the internet, you need a thick skin. You might get no comments. You might get negative comments that make no sense.

Regarding your image: I like it... I don't see anything that looks blown out or overprocessed. The colors are vibrant but appear natural. You have interesting details on the rocks, nice movement and leading lines in the water and I like the overall composition. For some reason this image just does not seem to "POP". There are plenty of individuals who post here who are masters at processing and can make even dull ordinary images pop. I don't have those skills so I have little to offer, except I think some dodge and burn could improve this image. Maybe the brightness on the left could be toned down and some d&b could help intensify the leading lines and draw the viewers attention into the image.

Anyway, don't get discouraged with a lack of comments. That happens frequently. If you are looking for c&c this may not be the best forum. You might want to consider posting on the FM Photo Critique forum. I have gotten some very helpful discussion and comments on that forum.

Hi Jon,
I see some differing opinions about your posted photo here.
My comments may not clear the air or may add more.. depending..
My first impression is "wow! how lucky you are to have that vibrant sky!"
It is not dark at all as you mentioned somewhere.
It is rather too busy to digest all at once.
My suggestion is to divide into vertically, which I am posting as below.
Of course, I didn't do any pp and they will look gorgeous after post procession according to the scene.
This is my suggestion.

You have wonderful photo here. Great!

-Kee
