These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago right about the time the ice melted off the lakes. I just got around to them. There were a handful of Lesser Scaups far away and about a half dozen Ruddy ducks. I checked last weekend and both the Scaups and Ruddies were gone. I guess they flew north ... All pictures with Canon 7D, 800mm, ISO400, -.33 ev, F5.6 - F7.1, around 1/1600 to 1/2000. I hadn't looked into figuring out how to get the EXIF in but I am working on that and hope the next group I process will contain the complete exif. CC always welcome.
Pic 1. I was watching these ducks for several hours, following them as they continually dived. In this one instance, one was preening itself when the second swam quickly to it and just jumped on top of it. I think these are females and it looked like they were horsing around. I didn't know ducks played like that!

Pic 2. Cruising towards me. Big bills on these little guys. If you have never seen a Ruddy, these are really tiny little duck and the bill looks out of proportion.

Pic 3. Starting to spread her wings.

Pic 4. This one surprised me. Usually they keep their distance. This quickly came close to shore, close enough to fill the frame and just popped up and quickly swam away. No, I didn't chop off her toes. OK, maybe I did a little
