Going to or from an appointment in the Ginza.
Point of information: Geishas are not prostitutes.
They are highly skilled and trained in conversation, the traditional tea ceremony, etc., and are often hired to spruce up businessmen's social get-togethers.
My seeing the lady was by mere chance, and I had time for only the one shot- with an inferior camera and flash. So I took it.

Oh, yes, she was aware that a foreigner was aiming a camera at her.
But this being the Ginza District of Tokyo, that was probably a fairly common occurrence.
Whether or not the lady minded the flash? Probably not, because she never looked at me so the flash of light didn't affect her at all, and of course, I didn't block her path or speak to her.
Most of all, Geishas are so polite and proper that she wouldn't have shown any reaction anyhow.
If it had been in Paris's Pigalle (when I was last there)- I'd have been screamed at until I either fled- or rented one of the street walkers for a few minutes

Thanks Digi, Zorro and BK.
In the several visits I made to Japan, I only saw geishas a couple of times- alas.
And this was the only time I had a chance to take a picture.
They really are lovely and doll-like, and they walk in a distinctive way with their special kimonos and clog-like sandals.
