I love the clouds and detail in the salt flat in #1 and I love the clouds in #2. The cloud in #2 reminds me of a scene from the movie "Independence Day".
You've handled the B&W conversion very well in the first shot, and that's quite the sky to have at Badwater. My favorite is the second though --- I'm a sucker for color shots, and that's a very unique looking cloud for Death Valley. I also really like the warm and cool color reflected off the salt in the foreground.
