I just spent 3 1/2 hours outside in a blizzard. 80km/h gusts, blinding snow.
Had the 2N and 500/4 out with a basic lens coat. Other than the battery dying after 500 shots, it worked flawlessly. The lens and body were completely covered in ice/snow. I put the combo in the car (cold), and started the car. This way, as the car warms up slowly, so does the camera and it doesn't generate internal fog.
JCowells shot is amazing. My 1Ds went half under the Pacific ocean a year ago, and that M-Effer laughed at me. When/if I get back to Canon, 1 series all the way.
I did drop my camera in 3 inches of mud/water in the Gorge. Had no way to take a picture of it.. but had pictures FROM it
My 5d MkIII went threw all sorts of weather lately. I had 35C With 100% humidity and a week Later it got -25C. Every thing went perfectly. The camera is working as it should!
Shot with 40D in tropical depression. 5D died from drops off canoe paddle, although it got soaked in a rainstorm several months prior and who knows what happened to it before I got it.
Todd mine didn't like the beach (5d). Aps bodies didnt seem to mind. If mine get like that I'll put them in the oven to dry. I turn it off when the element turns red. Too much heat is bad, too. Also I take the battery out if stuff gets wet a lot of times. Cell phones too.
Also cold camera in to a warm house is bad. Better to keep it in a bag, camera bag or zip loc, til it warms.
i soaked my 7d in rain and snow when i had it, and never had any issues at all. now i have a 5d3 and haven't had issues, but i have to admit to being a little more careful with it because i'm afraid to ruin it ($$$$$$).
although i have insurance so i'm not sure why i care. weather sealing is an underrated feature, imo. i love not having to think about babying a camera.
