p.1 #1 · AF Nikkor ED 80-200 f/2.8 D: Work on new body?

A friend has this lens. Wants to know if it will work on a new Nikon digital body. I'm a Canon guy, so I thought I'd ask the Nikon experts.

D7000 and up it will work. The 3000 or 5000 series it will not work. D90, D700, D7000, etc all will work.

Now it has me curious what is different between those that will and those that won't.

The entry level bodies do not have an auto focus motor in the body. Simple as that. The older lenses use a screw drive for focus. Better the camera better the screw drive.

Thank you. That makes perfect sense that a Canon guy would never think of, since all AF motors are in the lenses.
