Nice shots!
I might reconsider my initial thought of going there only when sun is in the forecast
I really hate sun in the forecast--it is good early morning and late day for landscapes and some wildlife and bird situations. The sun we had on Friday worked out ok as we were shooting late in day with low sun angle and shadows were under control. Lots of opportunity for hotspots and shadows on sunny day where these owls are. i personally find white cloudy days with some light snow provides a nice soft light that fills shadows.

Terrific set Jim. Exposures are spot-on showing wonderful color and detail, and I like your compositions too.
3 and 5 are pretty special... well done.
I'm not sure how I feel about baiting. So I'm not going to comment on that.
I'm sure that with the cold they need help, but help can become "dependence" & that's not always the best..... Not sure how to stand on it all....
Anyhow, great shots
Lil
Thanks for looking and commenting Lil. You and I most likely look at baiting in similar manner. I have not done it. After driving 6 hours to see GGO's and there were others doing it, I decided not to walk away , but to take pictures. Still in deep thought about the whole issue. In this instance, the owls could not penetrate the snow due to the icy surface-but if baiting had not been occurring, would they have moved on? What a quandary!
