I use Eneloops but do have some Powerex 2700's as well. I picked up the Powerex batteries for faster recycle time but have not really seen any difference between them in everyday use.

For a charger, I use a LaCrosse BC-700. It's a 4-bay charger that will do AAA or AA, individual charge channels, though the current on the channels is dictated by the first battery entered (so I can charge 1 or 4, but if I charge 4 they all follow the current set by 1). It's great except if I want to run a discharge/refresh cycle (which takes forever), because then I wish I had an 8-bay at least.
I have the european version - branded Technoline. I haven't noticed the current limitation, but then i don't think i've ever tried to charge batteries at different rates. I bought it for the discharge refresh cycling in order to resurrect some AA's that had dropped to very low capacity due to being used in a very low discharge application (PC keyboards, mice etc). It did the job and the batteries went from needing recharging every two weeks to needing charging every 3-4 months. I would strongly recommend that everyone pays the extra for such a charger - just rejuvinating my dying batteries pretty much paid for the charger, so its economically sensible. And the ability to check capacities to "match" cells and determine if they are on their way out, is very useful.
I also have the same problem with charging overly flat batteries. As you say, you just need to keep a dumb charger around to give them a bump start.

I heard that Duracell rechargeables are Eneloop in disguise (Sanyo makes them for Duracell). I have both and they behave identically so this might be true.

Haha wow. I can just imagine the crew of "Pimp My Ride" getting ahold of this.
"Yo so we thought your batteries were lookin' just a bit dull with that glitter, so what we did is attach an LCD TV to each one of them!"
I bought a pack for my 6 year old, to power her toys - They do have that little extra girl-appeal. If only they came in pink with hearts on, we'd be buying them by the thousand...

Yup...Eneloop. Been using them for quite some time after I saw they had a big following in the RC market. Was another overpriced hobby of mine at one time.

I'm in the minority here. I snagged up a dozen of Duracell StayCharged's from Amazon when they had a promotion/coupon that cost me less than $17. Not that I don't like Eneloop, but the price for these can't be beat.

standard energizer rechargibles over the past 4 years. I got the Maha charger and it breathed new life into them, otherwise I was going to buy a bunch of eneloops. The energizers work fine but I haven't tried the eneloops yet.
