Yes, it seems worse to me.
I started using the hide button a couple weeks ago. I may (or may not) still read some of the posts of the hidden people, but I made a vow to myself to not reply to them, and this has lowered the stress level for me quite a bit.

I've been using the hide me button a bit the past year too, and found that the people I have hidden rarely are quoted in any subsequent posts, which leads me to believe that whatever they were saying likely was not worth reading anyway.
But in general, yeah, things have been pretty ugly and personal on and off. Lots of half full glasses around.

Now that I think about it the problem started with the influx of so many Canadians on the forum.
I hope no one north of the US border took my post seriously. I was watching an old movie with the "late" John Candy called Canadian Bacon and I got caught up in the moment.

Jim
I took it very seriously. I loved it, it made me smile and I haven't have laughed and had such fun here in a long time. Good for the spirit. I loved Pixel Perfect's hockey response to me was a classic.

Should we all suggest to Fred that we have a "You are Mean" button and if that member receives enough of the "Mean" rating, the person would get a warning and if they continue receiving higher "Mean" rating, that member would automatically be kicked off?

Seems like a lot of venom and snarkiness in some of the posts lately. Do you guys and gals feel the same way or is it about the same and I am just noticing it more? Is there anything we can do to get things back in line?

No. The ringleaders of the bullies might take over.

In a sense we *are* all moderators - there is a "report" button on every post and a link to Fred at the top of the page. It is not difficult to see that rogue threads get deleted and abusive posters warned. Who would volunteer to be a fully empowered moderator anyway? I doubt i would.
The link above is the kind of thread that currently illustrates what is happening at our forums more frequently. I won't jump in that particular thread, because I know a few of the participants are not sensible at all even if I would kindly ask them to respect each others opinion and not make the thread personal they would ignore, or even add more fuel to a resulting flame war. So staying out is a strategy, at the same time the thread develops further and becomes a negative advertisement for the culture of this board that in general is the opposite from what is happening there. Moderation in my experience will generate it's own resistance from those who start a flame. It's a phenomenon that is hard to fight and probably something we have to accept every now and then, but it's not EOSfun

Just a common little pi$$in' contest in a brewery.....nothing very bad at all.

I've solved the problem. Using the graph below, we no longer have to write anything. Just post that a new product has been released and add this with a "You are Here" arrow.
