p.1 #1 · Merry Christmas!On the 11thday of xmas...
Mother Nature gave to me 11 distant relatives.....I love big cats and raptors but there is something so different about primates. The monkeys and apes are just fascinating to observe...whether its their family squabbles, facial expressions or just that they are only a few percentage points of DNA away from us Homo sapiens....they draw me into their world and it's hard to leave.
One more day and then a well earned posting vacation!

My favourite in this series of posts Eric. Very nice work. I don't think there is much of a difference between them and us, they're just smart enough to afford offices and cell phones. No way I'm picking favourites.

I missed some of your previous pots, Eric, but judging from the quality of these images I'm surely going back to check them out. These are all well captured and show the soul and personality of these animals.
Have a great 2013;beer:

I usually say I'm not a big fan of primate shots because I usually find them to be depressing for some reason. Shots like 6 do that to me. That said some of these I just love! 4 with the perfectly placed fig leaf in 4 7 stole my heart, 8 well don't get me started on that one I like the interaction in 9 and the last is uber priceless! Maybe you are changing my mind! Great set

Eric- a whole buncha beauties,
Monkeys and baboons can be found on the plains and its fringes- but chimps and apes are a whole lot more difficult to find; and I didn't know you had traveled to see the gorillas. So they came as a fun surprise.
The little monkey in the last shot- looking right at you and waving- is as memorable as an image can be. I love it!

Jeez, Eric, is there anything you don't have great photos of?? This is a wonderful collection. You do an excellent job of capturing the expressions on critters' faces. You'd probably make a fine portrait photographer. (Or maybe you are one already?) Thanks for showing these.

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words. I didn't actually realize that some people don't like seeing primates. My suspicion is that most of the images are from captive animals and there is a palpable sadness that comes through in their faces in those situations. I hope these free ranging ones don't necessarily come across the same way.
Mark, I do try to get facial expressions if I can but am in no way a portrait photographer....in fact I shy away from them but will do as many candid shots of my family as I can....I love spontaneity and not forced smiles and poses. On the other hand, it is my wife's few hundred gigs of family photos that we will all look back at with fondness rather than my thousands of leopard shots....go figure!
