I was in Calumet in LA today, and the salesman said they were selling the above at $2k. (this is below cost) Wow.
Not sure how long this special is on for, but you can call them to find out.
Good luck.
Yup, I got my D600 kit from Amazon on the 29th of December for $1999 shipped. Used my Amazon Chase VISA rewards card for purchase too. So a total of 9% cash back (approx ~ $180.00) as well. On top of that I used a $50 Amazon gift card (from my eldest step-daughter.)
Sold my 24-85G "kit lens" to Midwest Photo yesterday for $365.00 (already had this lens.)
So when it's all said and done, I "netted" the D600 body for around $1400. Not bad at all!
Edit: My mistake. The kit price from Amazon was $1996.95
the big D600 deal is gone, at least at Adorama, where I got mine. They are still giving away the D7000, which doesn't help my resale value to offset the D600 binge. I wasn't going to go FX but the deal was too good to pass

And, as others have already pointed out, every dealer in North America has been selling the kit for that price.
Not any more molson, many dealers ended this deal already. B&H is one of them. Adding it to your cart there reveals a price of $2496. So Calumet remains as one of the LEGIT dealers with the low price.

Pretty well all of our local dealers are still listing the kit for $1999 - or less... and no silly stories about it being "below cost"...
The deal officially ended at midnight on 12/29. All the established stores including Amazon changed their prices. There were a few stragglers that sold a few more kits, or weren't on top of it.
I suppose it might be less than cost, but Nikon will be paying incentives back to the dealers for kits sold at that price. Question might be how closely Nikon scrutinizes submitted sales for the incentive payments. If they are after the cutoff date, will they pay? Who knows and who cares...
