I'm not trying to convince Ron, just help those that have struggled with the concept. That said I guess the main advantage is absolute control and do over capability.

Paul, open the image in PS and check the info panel. If it isn't open window-info will open it for you. Then move your cursor over the image and watch the RGB values, over 255 is burnt.
