I noticed the 5D3 kit at BH is now $3,699. The site shows $4,399 and a $400 instant rebate that ends Jan 5 but when you add it to your cart the price is $3,699 i.e. $800 less! Is this a mistake? Should I wait until the 6D is released on Dec 10 to see what the price will do to the 5D3? Is there any word online about adding Wi-Fi to the 5D3 anytime soon in a new model?
I put a value of $800 on the kit lens bringing the body down to $2,900. I'm ready to checkout but wanted a little feedback first.
It is a good price specially if you need the lens as well. There have been better deals on ebay for body only but you never know when will be the next deal like that.
Adorama had the same kit with the 600EX RT added for $3,899 - $200 more - on eBay all of last weekend.
That is a USA body, Canon warranty, shipped with a regular Adorama receipt.
Figure the value of the 600 EX at about $550 if you need it, maybe $530 if you would sell it. (It is currently $569 at B&H.)
So that is basically $550-$200=$350 cheaper than the B&H sale. Plus, there was another $77 in "eBay Bucks" - to buy something with on eBay in January. So net-net is $350+$77=$427 cheaper. Almost a free 600EX.
If you have an immediate want/need/use for the camera, buy the B&H. If you only have a few shoots, wait to save a bit. Your call.
I was going to wait until March, because I don't work much during the winter. But I have a shoot Saturday and Sunday that I could use the 5D3 for. The net price was pretty good, so I bought one.
If you head to eBay to unload the 24-105 f/4 lens, it will probably sell for about $850. Subtract eBay fees, commissions, PayPal and shipping, you'll profit around $750. That's probably your best case scenario too. I'm seeing more and more body/lens with a discounted price, so I imagine there will be many others trying to unload the lens. I've been watching everything like a hawk, as I'm interested in body only. If you need it now, it's a little work, but will be cheaper than buying body outright. I would probably pull the trigger if I needed it now. For now, I'll continue to watch.
I just bought a 5d Mark iii body only on ebay from PMI digital for $2979. I chose the buy now price because I am leaving on a trip on the 8th of December and I couldn't wait any longer to make a decision. Would have considered the 6D if I had the time. PMi is a Canon authorized dealer. Delivery is set for the 4th. Looked like you could make a bid lower than the asking price but again I didn't want to wait for a response.

I've bought from PMIDigital before - my previous 5d Mark II.Excellent seller.
I'm no marketing expert, but with the number of 5DIII's sold in the past few weeks, the boards will be teaming with pics. That could only excite buyers in the short term. So, It may be awhile before the prices drop. For the couple of hundred saved buying from Ebay I'd opt for B&H.
I do most of my business with B&H but Amazon has the same deal as B&H but being an Amazon Prime member would get the kit to me in 1 day for $3.95. Does anybody have any experience sending gear back to them in the case of poor lens performance?
I have sent a few items back to Amazon, with no problems, just describe why you are not happy with it. This time of year, they sometimes extent the return policy to 60 days, for holidays. They email a shipping label for your box and drop off at local UPS site (Office Depot for me), so no return shipping cost. When you use a non-Prime Amazon 3rd party, you deal with that company's return policy.
Now for Texas, we have to pay sales tax on Amazon direct items, but not on their 3rd party suppliers (go figure). I love the Amazon Prime free 2 day shipping and the free Prime video access.

Another option, you might ask B&H if they will match the Amazon 1Day $3.95 shipping. That way you get the best of all worlds, plus support an FM supporter.
I am considering a second 5D Mark III body and I could locate a body only for slightly more than $2,800, including shipping. I don't have to sell anything, like a lens or flash that I don't need. With the eroding price of the 24-105mm kit lens, that seems to be a fair price, right?
