I use a Gitzo GM3551 for a 1D IV and 500 F4 with a RRS MH-01... Rated at about 40lbs. I don't believe your combo would require that much support, but if you do buy a bigger lens in the future you wouldn't need to upgrade.
I love my swiss made Monostad monopod.
It features a big rubber foot which I think stabilizes it a bit more than normal monopod foots.
I have used it with my EOS 5D (0.8 kg) and FD 300/2.8L (2.3 kg), or FD 400/2.8L (5.5 kg) or FD 800/5.6 (4.3 kg).
Monostat seems to have had its 5 minutes of fame a few years back here in the US. I look at a MP as a borderline consumable. so here is where I do look at the pay to play ratio. for the money/quality Feisol has a very large sweet spot.

Yes, and the RRS monopod head costs more than the monopod.
Well, I've gone for a Giottos 3260, as I've had one of their superb tripods for a while. Very sturdy indeed. My Kirk BH1 sits nicely on it indeed, and supports the camera and lens well!
