Tough loss for Real Salt Lake on Thursday night. I was hoping to have one more game to shoot this year but the Sounders will be moving on to the western conference finals.
Lio (xicotencatl) makes this look easy (see here) but I'm here to tell you that shooting soccer under the lights is similar to volleyball in being much harder than it seems it should be. Lots of shots that look good until you look at them closely and realize they're not quite sharp enough. Here are 5 that make the cut. C&C welcome.
I totally agree with you. The other thing to consider is how the exposure varies depending on where the action is on the field. I will typically divide the field into three zones and roll the shutter on the fly to make the adjustment. Your exposures and color look great. Hope all is well.
Thought it was a great set Russ. Watched the game on TV and it seemed like a physically intense battle. Both teams were fighting hard to earn this one. Lots of scenes like photo 3.
AChilders: Thank you. Yes, it was physically intense and, with the go-ahead/winning goal scored in the 81st minute, emotionally intense as well.
Matt: Haha. Glad you liked it. I thought it was different enough to be worth posting. Kind of gives the impression that the keeper has an intense interest in the exact location of the ball at all times. Thanks for your feedback!
Lio: Yeah, the Sounders were thumped by the Galaxy. It's going to be tough to come back from that one.
Thanks, Caleb.
Marty: I appreciate your feedback. That's sort of how I felt. A very different shot, but there's something catching about it.
Thanks, Manny. Soccer does require careful following of the action, and when that action gets close, if you follow the on-ball action, you have to know that a lot is happening beyond your vision and that the central action is likely to change very quickly. Fun stuff!
