It's a beautiful shot I love the branch he is on, (my opinion) if he weren't so centered in the frame it would a stronger photo to me in the fine art sense. I do love the image though, I don't have much luck with wildlife. I do have days when luck is on my side.

Thanks for the comment. This was about a 50% crop, so I had plenty of room to move him around, since he was looking straight at me I choose a more centered crop.

I agree -- with the straight-on pose and the bird positioned so vertically, I think your framing choice was the correct one.
However, I think the image is way too dark. You could open it up substantially with a combination of a Curves adjustment, S/H adjustment and some dodging about the head and eyes.
