Got up early this morning to try and capture a bright pass of the ISS.

I was armed with a 400 2.8 IS "overclocked" with 5.6x worth of TCs.

It seems the conditions (seeing, shot execution and ISS angle relative to the sun) weren't as optimal as April last year, when I got a bit better detail.

Not very sure, but I guess it means Impossibly Small Subject.

I always have a tough time focusing on it, so I cheat by prefocusing on the moon, which is a much larger and slower target.

Here's how the moon looks this morning from our islands.

Canon 7D + 400 2.8 L IS + stacked Canon 2x and Sigma 2x TCs,
1600 mm, f/16, ISO 200, 1/30 sec, 475B/516 support.

Peter, having used both versions of the 400 2.8 IS, how would you compare the optics of the new vs the old? My old one is so unbelievably sharp that I see an increase in captured detail at moonshots up to a 4x TC. I'm curious if Canon was able to improve on the near optical perfection of the older one.

The Mk II version of the 400 would have brought out a lot more of the ISS feather details.
