p.1 #1 · Tablet, Cintiq... wireless... my pipe dream...
Tablets have been getting pretty cheap lately and I've been thinking of getting one. It would be great if there is a way to incorporate the work I do on lightroom or photoshop to be used on the tablet.
However after looking at all the options and future offering, I came to the conclusion that it is currently not possible to have an acceptable processing power to run these programs with the right amount of battery life and storage to do these tasks.
Now given the low price these tablets are coming out now with wacom tablets built into it.... wouldn't it be feasible if a manufacturer could produce a wireless tablet that just connects onto your desktop so you can utilize all the storage, processing power and ram of your desktop. Sort of like a wireless cintiq monitor with batteries and some wireless system that can transmit the video and pen operation feed to the desktop. Instead of the cost of the processor, ram and storage... they just need to add some hardware for the wireless transmission.
Is there any such device that exist? Or maybe I'm the only one that thinks this would be a good idea.

Well look into a Samsung 10inch Note. It has a pen that i think is pressure sensitive and there are apps to do remote desktop to your home machine. Might me a little laggie so may not work so good. I haven't done much research lately but there may now be some apps to extend your pc to a table your dream hardware and app may already exist.

Lenovo is coming out with a convertible laptop/tablet that might be of interest ... not sure how robust the touch screen is, I've not looked into it yet, but there is the link.

Yes lots of new hardware are (is ?) about to be released for the coming Windows 8. Nearly everybody will have touch screen with windows RT or Windows 8 and some may be pressure sensitive.

When the tablets with Windows 8 come out next month there will be some with Ivy Bridge processors 8 gig of ram and sad that will be more than capable to run Photoshop. There will be others that run about the same as netbooks and some running RT which will be about the same as todays tablets. All of which will likely flop because of form factor price or both but some will be fine hardware none the less.

Ya, that's the feeling I get. I think the Windows 8 Pro platform gives the possibility of having a functional portable tablet that can run photoshop and lightroom. However, from all the variations of tablets/ultrabooks/convertables I've seen, it's still not there yet.
I'm hoping in a year or so when the technology matures a bit more, we will be able to have low power consumption processors powerful enough to run the photo editing software in the form of a high resolution tablet at the price point of about todays ultrabooks.
