Thats all terrific and points well taken, but haven't we gone slightly south of where we were headed ?
My point was that I think it would be good to let more people know about Luminosity Masking.
I suppose though you have to be seeking knowledge, which is how I learned of this in the first place.
Seek and ye shall find.
I think part of the reason that people are having trouble finding such good information that is readily available is because OEM mfr's espouse how great the camera is at doing if for you. Software programs are written to do it for you. The world we live in is one about finding ways to have someone/something else do it for you.
These are "Do It Yourself ... Any Way You Want" techniques that get steamrolled, trampled and tossed into the abyss under the mega-marketing of those who want to sell you something more, when you've already got what you need.
Tony and others only have so much of a marketing budget, so they can only speak so loud. The masses (been part of that too) have trouble hearing the voice of those advocating learning to use the tools, because of all the noise being made by those who are trying to sell you new tools AND those who are telling us how great and wonderful the new tool they just bought or that just came out is.
That's the way of the world ... you just gotta spend more time digging with the shovel you already own, than buying new shovels.
If anyone's interested, I sent my luminosity mask action to Action Central. It generates 9 alpha channels based on the active layer. They included an image with the zip file so it's a llittle on the large side.
