p.2 #1 · inexpensive 300mm

Personally the latest TC's are not any different than the older ones on lenses such as the 70-200 f/2.8 (atleast I didn't see any differences in the IS version anyway). I would go with a 1.4x II ($220) or a Kenko 1.4x Pro ($120) myself and stick to the 70-200 II. Way cheaper, fantastic AF/IQ even with the TC and very nice IS too.

Unbelievably sharp at that slow shutter speed.

yep.... the masses have spoken. The teleconverter is a no brainer unless your on a two camera setup and want a 300mm one one and the 70-200 on the other

Not exactly. I have owned a few 300 f/4 IS's, 300 f/4's, and now I have a 70-200 II and used a Canon 1.4x II and the pictures come out excellent. Almost no degradation in IQ.

This will make every other 300 look inexpensive: the Canon 30-300 PL. $44,000 now but I expect the price will drop once the early adapters get it out of their system

Here's the Canon 300 f/4L IS on a 5Dc with the 1.4x II (420mm),...you loose some sharpness and overall IQ along with some focus speed...

@ f/8, 1/125, ISO 125, AI Servo, Spot metering, center focal point...hand held...

$600 can get you a used 300 f/4 non-is that is sharper than the is.

Well, I suggested it needed a good internal cleaning . . . suggestion was not well received by management.

In fact, the lens and it's mate (the 14-60 T2.9) have been removed from my area and locked up somewhere. I think they still are a little pissed about me taking that 24-70 II apart while they had a management meeting.

seems like 300mm f4 IS or not IS is the way to go but what about Sigma 300mm 2.8.The average price of a used one on fred miranda reviews is $1500 and it gets a 9.5. seems inexpensive for a 300mm 2.8.
As anybody got any exprience with the lens or even better compared both of them. I have been looking threw the Web and I havent found anything yet.

Thanks
Alexis

^^^^ this. I no longer have mine, but produces stellar images.
