Heard a lot of wedding photographers complaining about LR4 and LR4.1 slow-downs. Though I never had that issue myself, I'm wondering how LR4.2 is doing for you.

Sort of. Deleting the preference file was the magic. Faster than ever after that.

did this ^^^ before using LR4.2. the fastest LR has been since LR3.5-ish.

i post about once a year and this deserves the one post for 2012. LR is flying now by renaming (or deleting) the preference file.

So is this just worth trying for Windows users? I've not actually had any problems, but I'm always interested to know about things that speed up life!

Win7 for me. do not know on Mac.

edit: wow, this definitely made a difference. much less lag when i move the sliders before i see the effect.

Sweet thanks...One thing that helped me was that I will go to preferences and increase the raw cache and also render 1:1 previews on the import. Doesn't fix it but helps a great deal.

+1 made a world of difference for me. It's been the fastest any version of LR has ever been for me since doing that.

this except I find I have to repeat deleting the preference file. Everytime I use LR4.

I just keep going back to LR3

Not a big deal to replace the shortcut to lightroom with a shortcut to a batch file that deletes the preferences file and THEN launches lightroom.
