I am back posting more japan images. I have been shooting there every year since 2004, but I had not posted much from 2011-2012, so there we go.

All images are shot with 1D4, and then mostly 85II, 200 2.0, 24II, and some other ones.
I'm so glad you're back. I had just about given up that we wouldn't be seeing any more of your work. Thanks for sharing these; can't wait to see more.

The Yabusame shot is 1/1250, f2, ISO200, 200mm f2.0, 1D4, neutral, AWB. The horse was at full speed.
The image is blurry, but it is the best instant I could get, so I posted it, even if blurry has always been a no-go for me otherwise.
What follows is written in a truly friendly tone of voice and any questions are friendly questions asked to better understand what YOU see as a photographer and what you know about the subject (Japan traditional subjects) etc. Everything is a friendly question, asked because of friendly curiosity.

I have enjoyed seeing your very nice photos of Japan in the past. They are special.
I see in your last comments in this topic that you consider 2011 and 2012 to be poor years for your work there.
I am curious about what you feel made the difference (why poor years?).
Was it a difference in places you saw or events you attended?
Or a difference in technique or use of tools (or new lens etc.)?
I wish you the best in continuing your series on Japan, as in the past you demonstrated a beautiful view of that part of the world.
Thank you very much for the nice comment Yes, Japan can be a wonderful place, and I am very fortunate to witness this side of Japan life.
The reason I wrote 2011-2012 has been poor in the photography side is purely personal. I lacked the energy and therefore time to go out and shoot, while I am struggling to refresh creativity. I had many other elements unfolding on my personal and professional lives (very positive but time consuming), and I maintained sport but had to let go of photo. I did a few events, and got good images because the events were fantastic, but no challenged myself truly. That does not means it
I now have taken steps to have much more time in 2013, for many things including mostly photography and Japanese language.

Refreshing creativity is something that all artists and photographers face.
With your tools, technical skills and eye for composition, I can imagine that if you apply yourself to any new subjects in Japan (e.g. different from the festival and costume images), that you will no doubt show us a creative and nice view of that new subject too.

Steady Hand > well it was not only creativity but mostly time and energy, I have other responsibilities who are really really time consuming.
Thanks for the comment, but I am pretty sure I won't do as good on non-traditionnal subjects, for one simple reason : I really love traditionnal subjects, that's not true of the rest.
I love nature but it is very hard to make perosnnal and original images, plus I don't like to tweak images (seems almost unavoidable if you want an eye-candy landscape shot nowadays ...), plus it really requiers crazy amount of time (and transportation costs) to get THE good light. But I'm working on a little something that fly and will give me a different point of view on things, so hoppefully 2013 will have some suprises ...
And I am clearly not in love with the modern cities, it's superficial consumer lifestyle, it endless sea of concrete, the beaten and stresses salary man ... you have to love your subjects to take the best out of it, and I am not there yet in the relationship.
